Crip* certificates

Crip* offers two certificates for students, professionals, and artists to engage in a practice-based exploration of Crip/Disabled critical & creative methodologies and chart the means through which knowledge produced via a Crip/Disabled experience can shape and change the ways we understand, imagine, and enact the fine and applied arts. These certificates are offered out of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Certificate programs are developed by nationally-recognized University of Illinois faculty with expertise in Cripistemology and the Arts.

Crip*—Cripistemology and the Arts Undergraduate certificate

For Undergraduate students interested in developing a cripistemological approach to creative production. Through the Crip*—Cripistemology and the Arts Undergraduate certificate, students will explore principles of interdependence, open and expanded accessibility, Crip temporality, radical alterity, Crip/Disabled coalition building, and networks of support and collaboration by developing a creative and critical methodology founded in Crip/Disabled epistemologies.

Eligibility: Undergraduate University of Illinois students or non-degree

Format: In-person, hybrid, online, etc

Total Credit Hours: 9 credit hours

Application: Current undergraduate students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign may initiate their certificate by completing this Certificate Initiation Form. Non-degree students should review non-degree information here, then register with the university here and follow all non-degree enrollment instructions. Please initiate the certificate by submitting the Certificate Initiation Form once you have attended the first class of a certificate course.

Details: This certificate is credit-bearing, meaning that those who complete the course requirements will have a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign transcript with the courses completed and grades. The certificate is non-transcriptable, meaning that you will not earn a degree or diploma and the certificate completion will not be listed on students’ transcripts.

Completion: Current undergraduate students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign may indicate completion of their certificate by completing this Certificate Completion Form. Once the certificate coordinators verify completion of the certificate, it will be emailed to your netID. Crip*—Cripistemology and the Arts certificate (graduate students or non-degree)

For students, artists, and professionals to critically and creatively engage intersections between cripistemology and the arts. The Crip*—Cripistemology and the Arts certificate will draw connections between artistic praxes and critical methodologies in support of a practice-based exploration of disability, Crip Theory, cripistemology, and the arts. Participants will critically engage issues of access, embodiment, and representation through a combination of theoretical, practical, and historical modalities.

Eligibility: Graduate University of Illinois students or non-degree

Format: In-person, hybrid, online, etc

Total Credit Hours: 12 credit hours
